Fasting not feasting

Today, millions of Jews all over the world are hungry. It's Yom Kippur, the day when we apologize and fast. It seems fitting that this day would be the first day that really feels like the end of summer. This morning when I got on my bike to go to work, the air felt crisp. No more heat radiating from the earth. Just the freshness of fall coming. So, with a hungry stomach today, I am grateful that yesterday friends dropped by for perhaps a last gathering around the table in my garden. Here we are eating crepes with mushrooms, beet greens, nuts, plums and pears recently gleaned. Oh, and I am sorry if I have done you wrong. I will attempt to be a better person this year.
